Pineapple

Pineapple (Ananas comosus) brings bright acidity, natural sweetness and an immediately recognisable tropical aroma, making it particularly useful when a functional formula needs freshness without heaviness. Pineapple is also closely associated with bromelain, a group of proteolytic enzymes found especially in the stem and also in the fruit; bromelain has been widely studied in its own right. It is important, however, not to assume that every pineapple ingredient or processed beverage contains a clinically meaningful amount of active bromelain — processing and the raw material used matter.
